         Rally Reports 2012

Thanks to those who turned out for the walk along the Calder Navigation canal and The River Calder.  The weather was fine for walking although a little windy. Everyone stayed for lunch and we were joined by Steph, Jean and a very well looking Tina [who seems to be recovery well].

We returned to York, having double booked ourselves that weekend.

Well worth it - good company on the walk!!

David and Lesley

JANUARY 2012 THE FIRST WINTER WALK

The first event for 2012 was a walk led by David Neve we met in The Ship car park at Horbury Bridge at 10 am and set off along the canal tow path and we walked down to the Navigation at Durker. We had a break at that point and then we crossed over the river and walked back to The Ship where we went in and had a very good and fair priced meal plus a small amount of liquid refreshment. So can I thank David and Lesley for an enjoyable day. This was a very easy walk and the weather was kind to us. Can we also thank David & Lesley for coming from the rally they had booked on the same weekend it can only get better this year ha ha. We wondered why you came the opposite way than usual.

Rally Reports 2011

RALLY REPORT OLD SNYDALE 28 DEC 1 JAN

What a great rally from day one everybody got stuck in to the fun and games that our rally marshals had put on for us, we had 4 new ralliers on with us this year and they even got stuck in to the spirit of the Holiday in more than one way hick.

Day one we had a games night and Scottish night what a sight some of us were I’m sure there was some cheating going off at domms Jacqui won them and Gladys won the darts if you saw her throw the darts you would understand why I think there was some sort of cheating (ERIC BRISTOW) she is not Ha Ha

Day 2 we had an entertainer he was sourced by Vera he must have been good he wasn’t paid off after the first spot and everybody was up dancing and he turned up on the right day that made a change

Day 3 this was the night of St Trinnians well what a laugh some of the men I’m sure they have come out of the closet (Ian Nutter) and some of the women’s skirts had Alan Gee in a bit of a fluster, at one stage I thought we were going to throw a bucket of water over him.

New years eve Or is it Old year’s night we had a fantastic Buffet supper and then had fun and games that lasted well into the early hours of new years day ho what a sore head Again.

Throughout the whole period the food was fantastic as usual by the galley crew Steph Tina Vera Ian Ken and Harry, then they had all there little helpers the rest of the ralliers who helped clean up.

Sadly this was the last one to be run at Snydale by the crew it went out with a hell of a bang in more ways than one when a certain 2 let off outdoor party poppers in the hall what a mess but really good fun and what the hell it cleans up.

Many thanks To Ian Steph Tina and Ken for a great time.

Trevor and Sue

First of all can we say a big thank you to Graham Sweeney for finding this venue for us. The field was a bit wet but that did not dampen anyone's spirit as we all were in the Club on Friday evening for our Christmas Party.

There were games and a very very difficult quiz ha ha

Santa came to all the adults and we were fighting to keep our presents but everyone finished up with one.

Then the children's turn, they were just as excited as the adults.

We had a lovely faith supper which was very well supplied and also Cathy and friends did some lovely warm food chillie, corned beef pie and chips.  As usual there was plenty to go round.  Mike was busy with the music and then Sandy took over the last hour or two?

Saturday was really wet so we didn't venture out, but everybody was eager to go Saturday evening.  there was a singer on which the club booked, there was bingo for those who wished to join in with very big money prizes one of our members being very lucky.

Sunday morning guess what, it is raining we had the flag in the club house with tea, coffee and homemade cakes.  Thank you to Cathy, Mick and Callum and John and Alison for a very enjoyable weekend.

Ian & Stephanie

The Celebration Rally had to be relocated and a new venue was Siddal Cricket Club, Halifax.  So we set off on Friday for the long journey to the rally which took less than we thought it would!  We were greeted and sited by the jolly Marshalls and got ready for the first evening of Christmas festivities.

The chilled evening air woke us all up on the way to the club house to a room full of Santas in their suits and jolly faces.

Well done to all, as the Faith Supper was fantastic with a variety of savouries and sweets that Delia Smith would have been proud of.  The evening of entertainment was full of fun and dancing at the disco, a good evening had by all.

The Marshalls had laid something for all ages and a mystery walk around Siddal set off on Saturday and it concluded in a cosy warm pub called the Cross Keys.  Saturday evening was another entertaining night and a couple of games of bingo which again was enjoyed by all that made the mad dash in the rain to the club house.

Well done all, we are looking forward to next year's rally.

Pat and Ken Lowes - Yorkshire Dales

The Durham Dinner Dance weekend was combined with the Region AGM and well over 60 vans attended, with quite a few from The Yorkshire Pennine Centre.

On the Friday it was into the Mayfair Centre where members mingled with all the locals who come for their usual Friday night disco and in with the price is a pea and pie supper.

The Dinner Dance went very well with the main guest being Club Vice-Chairman Jan Moore and her husband Darrell and a good night was had by all who attended.

On Sunday morning, after a very windy night, ask Sue Lund how the drinks swayed like on a ship and she could have brought my paper on a Sunday morning because that's how far she had to go to retrieve her buffet.

The AGM was held where we had the Dinner Dance last night and coffee was served when you went in and the AGM started at 11 am. prompt.

This was the first time our Chairman Ian had been on public show, as you might say but he did not let Pennine down and gave a very good account of himself, with a very good, short and to the point report, so well done to him .

In the elections Chairman Adrian Tinker from Mid West, Vice Chairman David Ferdinand, Yorkshire Pennine, Secretary Silvia Moran South Yorkshire and Paul Devey from East Yorkshire as Treasurer,  and the three delegates to represent the region on the Club Council are Adrian Tinker, Silvia Moran and Paul Devey.

A gift was presented to retiring Chairman Tim Webb and a bouquet of flowers to his wife Diane and the new Chairman gave a very good account of what Tim had done over the years he had served on the Council and wished him and Diane all the very best for the future.

On a very personal note I would like to thank all the Pennine members who made the long journey North to support me in my election to the position of Region Vice-Chairman from Hazel and I thanks to you all for your support

David Ferdinand

We are notorious for always being the last to arrive on any rally but on this occasion we arrived a little earlier at The Lido.  It was nice to see such a good turn out of vans.We were shown to our pitch by Sue and Trevor and then settled in and looked forward to the weekend ahead.   After a last minute decision to go to the pub for tea we missed the opening flag which was held in Trevor and Graham's awning but arrived back in plenty of time to enjoy the friendly atmosphere with a glass or two of wine staying until the wee small hours.

Not sure what was going on in Trevor and Sue's van after we left but heard a little rumour that there was a bit of bed swapping going on.  Apparently poor Trevor had a bit of a scare when he turned over in bed to find his brother-in-law John sharing his bed instead of Sue?  There is even photographic evidence of the two of them cuddled up.  Keep it in the family I say!

Saturday's weather was a bit of a foggy start but this did not dampen the usual walkers' spirits, taking a hike around the local area which ended up in everyone's favourite place, the PUB.

In the evening most ventured down to The Lido Club for the evening's entertainment which was a singer, all I can say is "and the crowd went wild NO MORE, NO MORE".   No, really a fun night was had by all.

Sunday morning's flag saw a few people looking a bit bleary eyed, still suffering from hangovers.  The usual raffle was run and the monies to "Help the Hero Charity", a worthy cause

All too soon it was time to pack up and head home.  We would just like to say a really big thank you to Graham, Trevor, Jacqui and Sue for a fantastic weekend as always and for making us feel so welcome.

Janet and Ian

Despite a foggy weekend we had a warm reception from our Marshalls to what turned out to be a good rally.

We met at the Marshalls' vans on Friday night and had a few drinks or in some cases quite a few more.

Saturday they had a walk down to riverside path to Knaresborough, we all went to the pub for an enjoyable Saturday evening get together.

Sunday morning and Flag soon arrived.  It was my pleasure to give thanks to our Marshalls for a very good rally.  Jacqui and Graham and Sue and Trevor.

Well done you four.
